The 2009 South Asian Football Federation Cup was initially going to be held in India in December 2009 after the Indian domestic season has finished, it was announced on 11 June 2008, just weeks after the 2008 edition had finished.
On 2 October 2009, it was announced that the championship would be held from December 4 till December 14 in Bangladesh.
